Life in the City is certainly varied. Yesterday I had an induction at the City Academy Hackney. One of several schools the City of London sponsors in London. I enjoyed chatting to students who are working hard in a calm and supportive atmosphere. Their results speak for themselves. I’m delighted to be involved in the life of this school as a Governor.
Today I attended the installation of 160th constable of the Tower of London, General Sir Nicholas Houghton. A position which goes back to Norman times and was once even held by Thomas Becket. These days the position is for 5 years and usually held by a member of the military. The music was particularly impressive and it was great to see Tower ward’s Beadle Spike Abbott in all of his finery. Here’s to the next 5 years for our neighbours at the Tower of London!
